Product Details

SUPACEIL™ was the first plasterboard in Australia manufactured with Optimised Core technology. CSR Gyprock developed it specifically to address the most common ceiling complaint on residential sites: boards that sag, especially when heavy ceiling insulation is loaded above. The Optimised Core delivers a superior strength-to-weight ratio — greater breaking strength in a board that weighs only 6.1 kg/m² (6.2 kg/m² in WA), meaning it resists sag and resists fixings pulling through under load.

The board spans up to 600mm joist centres, making it the correct choice for modern open-plan residential builds where ceiling frames are typically set at that spacing. The thicker face paper also produces cleaner cuts and squarer edges, reducing waste and finishing time.

SUPACEIL™ is available from Aussie Plasterboard's Osborne Park warehouse and delivered across WA. It is part of the broader plasterboard range stocked by Perth's most experienced wall and ceiling supplier.

Best For

  • Residential ceilings on 600mm joist centres
  • Ceilings with heavy bulk insulation installed above
  • Open-plan living areas where ceiling span and flatness matter
  • Renovations and extensions where existing framing is at 600mm centres
  • Projects where SUPACEIL™ is used for ceilings and Gyprock PLUS™ is used for walls — an efficient two-product residential system
  • Any non-wet-area ceiling in residential or light commercial applications

Why Builders Specify It

  • Spans 600mm joist centres — no need to add extra ceiling battens or change the framing set-out
  • Stays flat under heavy insulation loads — the reinforced core resists fixture pull-through
  • Lightweight at 6.2 kg/m² (WA) — reduces fatigue during overhead installation
  • Non-combustible per BCA Clause C1.12 — compatible alongside Fyrchek™ in buildings requiring fire-rated ceiling systems
  • AS/NZS 2588 compliant — accepted by building certifiers across WA without special approval

Installation Notes That Prevent Callbacks

  • Always fix SUPACEIL™ to framing — never unsupported. Use Gyprock fixings at the spacing recommended in the Gyprock installation guide for the joist spacing being used.
  • Install ceiling insulation batts before boarding where possible. If insulation is loaded after boarding, confirm the joist spacing and load are within SUPACEIL™'s rated span. For higher insulation loads, pair with Fletcher Insulation chosen to match the ceiling load specification.
  • Cut using a sharp knife and straight edge — the thicker face paper scores cleanly, but a worn blade will tear rather than cut.

What is the maximum joist spacing SUPACEIL™ can span?

SUPACEIL™ is rated for ceilings with joist or batten centres up to 600mm. For 450mm centres, Gyprock PLUS™ is an equally valid and slightly lighter option. SUPACEIL™ is the correct product when the framing is set at 600mm — a common residential standard in Perth new construction.

Can SUPACEIL™ handle heavy ceiling insulation above it?

Yes. The Optimised Core technology increases the board's resistance to sagging under load, which is particularly important when thick batt insulation is placed on top of the ceiling lining. This is the primary reason builders in WA specify SUPACEIL™ over a standard 10mm board for ceilings.

Is SUPACEIL™ suitable for wet areas such as bathroom ceilings?

No — SUPACEIL™ does not have moisture resistance treatment. For bathroom, ensuite, or laundry ceilings, specify Aquacheck™ or Sensitive, both of which offer moisture-resistant properties for wet area use.

What jointing compound should I use with SUPACEIL™?

Use a setting compound for the tape coat and first fill coat to build strength, then follow with a drying compound for finish coats. See the Compounds range for current options.

How does SUPACEIL™ differ from Gyprock PLUS™?

Both boards use Optimised Core technology and are 10mm. The key difference is span capacity and core optimisation: SUPACEIL™ is engineered specifically for ceiling applications up to 600mm joist centres, while Gyprock PLUS™ is designed for wall and ceiling use at 450mm centres. Using SUPACEIL™ on ceilings and Gyprock PLUS™ on walls is a common and efficient Perth residential specification.

Can I get SUPACEIL™ delivered to regional WA?

Yes — Aussie Plasterboard delivers across all of Western Australia from Osborne Park. Request a quote to confirm lead times for your site.
