Product Details
Gyprock EC08™ Extreme is a 13mm Australian-made, GECA-certified multi-function plasterboard designed to deliver the highest level of impact resistance in the EC08™ range while simultaneously meeting fire, acoustic, moisture, and mould resistance requirements. It achieves this through a construction that combines a fibreglass mesh layer (like Impactchek™) with a dense fibre-reinforced core and heavy-duty high-grammage face paper.
EC08™ Extreme walls stay looking newer for longer in environments subject to daily hard and soft body impact — hospital corridors, mental health facility hallways, school gymnasiums, and correctional facility cells. This reduces unplanned maintenance interventions and operational disruption to occupied facilities.
EC08™ Extreme contains 21.3% recycled content and its low VOC emissions make it suitable for occupied facilities where maintaining indoor air quality is a priority. For commercial projects pursuing green building ratings, it contributes to Green Star and NCC Section J sustainability requirements. If maximum impact is not the primary driver, EC08™ Complete covers the same fire, acoustic, moisture, and mould attributes in a lower-specification impact profile.
Best For
- Mental health facilities — walls in patient rooms, corridors, and common areas
- Correctional facilities — extreme impact resistance reduces cell wall maintenance
- Hospital corridors and ward walls subject to gurney and trolley impact
- School gymnasiums and sports halls with hard and soft body impact risk
- Hotel foyers and high-traffic public circulation areas
- Any commercial project where a multi-attribute plasterboard is specified to consolidate impact, fire, acoustic, moisture, mould, and sustainability requirements in a single board
Why Commercial Specifiers Choose It
- Fibreglass mesh + dense fibre-reinforced core + heavy-duty face paper: three layers of impact defence in a single 13mm board
- GECA certified — recognised certification for green building procurement; contributes to Green Star material credit requirements
- Low VOC — suitable for occupied healthcare and education facilities where chemical off-gassing must be minimised
- 21.3% recycled content — highest recycled content in the Gyprock plasterboard range
- Fire and acoustic rated, mould and moisture resistant — replaces what would otherwise be multiple different boards in different locations. For less extreme impact requirements with the same multi-attribute benefits, compare to EC08™ Complete
Installation Notes That Prevent Callbacks
Specifying EC08™ Extreme on a WA healthcare, education, or correctional project? Request a quote early to confirm lead times and minimum quantities.
- EC08™ Extreme is heavier than standard 13mm (12.4 kg/m²). Adjust your fixing schedule accordingly — confirm fixings type and frequency with the Gyprock installation guide for the specific wall or ceiling system.
- The board is available as a special order with minimum quantities in some cases — confirm stock availability with our team before specifying it in a bid or tender document.
- As with all multi-attribute boards, EC08™ Extreme must still be used as part of a correctly specified assembly — penetrations must be sealed, and adjacent fire-rated junctions must use appropriate fire stopping. Pair with Steel Stud and Ceiling Systems for the complete assembly.
What is the difference between EC08™ Extreme and EC08™ Complete?
Both are multi-attribute boards with fire rating, acoustic grade core, moisture resistance, mould resistance, low VOC, and high recycled content. The key difference is impact performance. EC08™ Extreme adds a fibreglass mesh layer on top of an already dense core, providing the highest level of impact resistance in the Gyprock range — specifically designed for mental health, correctional, and extreme-impact healthcare environments. EC08™ Complete has a dense fibre-reinforced core without the mesh layer and is appropriate for most green commercial projects.
What is GECA certification and why does it matter?
GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) is an independent third-party certification for environmentally preferable products. It verifies that a product meets standards for recycled content, VOC emissions, and environmental impact throughout its lifecycle. GECA certification contributes to Green Star material credits and is increasingly required in WA government and healthcare procurement specifications.
Can EC08™ Extreme be used in wet areas?
Yes — EC08™ Extreme includes moisture resistance as part of its multi-attribute specification. It is suitable for wet area walls and ceilings in commercial applications. As with all moisture-resistant plasterboard, a waterproof membrane to AS3740 is still required in tile-applied wet zones such as shower recesses.
Is EC08™ Extreme readily available in WA?
EC08™ Extreme may be available as a special order with minimum quantities at times. Contact Aussie Plasterboard at (08) 9244 4250 or request a quote early in your project procurement to confirm stock availability and lead times.
What fire rating does EC08™ Extreme achieve?
EC08™ Extreme is non-combustible per BCA Clause C1.12 and the fire and acoustic grade core is compatible with tested Gyprock fire assembly systems. The specific FRL achieved depends on the complete wall or ceiling assembly. Refer to CSR Gyprock wall and ceiling system documentation for the assemblies that incorporate EC08™ Extreme.
