Product Details
Gyprock Flexible is a 6.5mm thick plasterboard sheet with an enhanced gypsum core specifically developed to allow the board to bend and conform to curved substrates. Designers and installers can create convex curves with a minimum radius of 250mm and concave curves with a minimum radius of 450mm, opening up a range of architectural possibilities that standard flat plasterboard cannot achieve.
The board is lightweight at 4.3 kg/m² — the lowest board weight in the Gyprock plasterboard range — which simplifies handling on curved frames and reduces the effort required when bending the board around a form. Gyprock Flexible is installed in two layers to achieve the required wall thickness and structural performance; the double layer also improves the finished surface quality.

- Always install Gyprock Flexible in two layers. The first layer forms around the curve and is fixed to the framing; the second layer is laminated to the first to achieve full thickness and a flat surface for finishing.
- Use a flexible jointing compound from the Compounds range for all joints on curved walls. Standard setting compounds are brittle and will crack if the substrate experiences any seasonal or structural movement.
- Wet the board lightly with a damp sponge or roller on the side that will be compressed (the inner face of a concave curve) — this softens the gypsum core and allows a tighter radius to be achieved without cracking the board.
- Frame the curve with a timber or steel form that matches the desired radius before installing the boards — do not try to flex boards directly onto studs set in a flat plane.
What is the minimum radius Gyprock Flexible can achieve?
Gyprock Flexible can achieve convex curves (curving outward) with a minimum radius of 250mm, and concave curves (curving inward) with a minimum radius of 450mm. For tighter radii, the board may need to be lightly wetted on the compression face to soften the core. Do not exceed the minimum radius without consulting CSR Gyprock installation guidance.
Why is Gyprock Flexible installed in two layers?
The first layer conforms to the curved frame and provides the structural base. The second layer is laminated over the first to achieve the combined thickness needed for a flat, gap-free surface that can be finished normally. Two layers also improve the surface stiffness and prevent the joints of the first layer from telegraphing through to the finished surface.
What jointing compound should I use on curved walls?
Always use a flexible jointing compound on curved plasterboard walls. Standard setting compounds are designed for flat surfaces and will crack if the substrate has any residual movement after installation. See the Compounds range for available flexible compound options.
Can Gyprock Flexible be used in wet areas?
No — Gyprock Flexible is not moisture resistant. Do not use it in bathrooms, shower recesses, or other wet areas. For curved walls in wet areas, specify Aquachek™ in the standard 10mm profile and create the curve with a radius framing system — Aquachek™ can flex slightly but is not designed for tight radius curves.

Product Handling
Transportation and manual handling: Refer to the Gypsum Board Manufacturers of Australia (GBMA) website for recommended OH&S practices.
Storage: Protect plasterboard and cornice from weather and moisture. Avoid products sagging by storing horizontally, supported on a level platform or full-width support members spaced at max. 600mm centres.
