Product Details

Gyprock Sensitive is a 10mm plasterboard specifically developed for environments where moisture, mould, and indoor air quality are concerns. The gypsum core is treated with a powerful but gentle antifungal agent that penetrates through the paper liner into the subsequent paint coating, providing long-term protection against mould and mildew. A wax emulsion treatment makes the core highly resistant to moisture and humidity without compromising structural integrity.

Sensitive is classified as low in volatile organic compounds (VOC), meaning it emits fewer chemicals than the acceptable Australian Standard — an important consideration for homes occupied by people with asthma, allergies, or chemical sensitivities. It satisfies the Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirements for wet area wall linings in residential buildings.

In Perth, where many homes close to the coast experience humidity fluctuations, Sensitive is a sound choice for any room where occupant health is a priority. For areas that also require fire resistance, consider Fyrchek™ MR which combines fire rating with moisture resistance.

Best For

  • Bathrooms, ensuites, laundries, and toilets in homes of asthma or allergy sufferers
  • Bedrooms and living areas where low VOC off-gassing is a priority
  • Children's rooms and nurseries
  • Commercial showers, change rooms, laundries, and kitchens
  • Hospital ward bathrooms and soffits in healthcare facilities
  • Renovation projects where existing mould problems have been remediated and moisture-resistant lining is required to prevent recurrence

Why Builders and Specifiers Specify It

  • Antifungal agent penetrates through paper liner into the paint layer — protection isn't just surface-deep
  • Wax emulsion core provides moisture resistance that satisfies BCA wet area wall lining requirements
  • Low VOC classification — contributes to green building ratings and supports occupant health
  • Non-combustible per BCA Clause C1.12 — compatible in systems that also include Fyrchek™ for fire separation
  • Used in both residential and commercial projects — recognised by healthcare facility specifiers

Installation Notes That Prevent Callbacks

For health-sensitive or green building projects, request a quote and speak to our Osborne Park team about availability.

  • Sensitive is moisture resistant, not waterproof. In wet area applications (shower recesses), a waterproof membrane to AS3740 is still required over the board before tiling.
  • Paint promptly after installation — the antifungal agent extends into the paint layer, so leaving the board unprimed and unpainted for extended periods reduces its protective effect. Ensure the primer and paint used are compatible with moisture-resistant plasterboard. Explore Compounds for appropriate jointing products.
  • In commercial change rooms and kitchens, install with recessed edge joints taped and filled before tiling or painting — the board is not a tile backer in the way that fibre cement is, so tiling requires a waterproof membrane system.

Is Sensitive the right board for a bathroom?

Yes — Sensitive satisfies BCA requirements for wet area wall linings in residential buildings. It is moisture resistant and has antifungal protection, making it a strong choice for bathrooms occupied by people with respiratory sensitivities. A waterproof membrane to AS3740 is still required in wet zones like shower recesses before tiling.

Does Sensitive need a waterproof membrane before tiling?

Yes. Sensitive is moisture resistant, not waterproof. In tile applications, a waterproof membrane system compliant with AS3740 must be applied over the board in wet zones. Without the membrane, water can penetrate behind the tile and behind the board over time.

How does Sensitive differ from Aquacheck™?

Both boards are moisture resistant and suitable for wet areas. Sensitive adds two important features that Aquacheck™ does not have: a powerful antifungal agent (protecting against mould and mildew) and a low VOC classification. Sensitive is the preferred choice for health-conscious residential projects and healthcare or education facilities.

Can Sensitive be used on ceilings as well as walls?

Yes — Sensitive is suitable for both walls and ceilings in residential and commercial applications. It is typically used in rooms where moisture or air quality is a concern: bathrooms, laundries, hospital ward bathrooms, and similar spaces.

Is Sensitive compatible with standard jointing compounds?

Yes — standard jointing compounds from the Compounds range are compatible with Sensitive. For low-VOC projects, confirm the compound choice with your supplier to ensure the total system VOC remains within required limits.

Can I get Sensitive delivered to Perth or regional WA?

Yes — Aussie Plasterboard delivers statewide from Osborne Park. Request a quote for project quantities and delivery scheduling.
